Lost in the Clouds
A spring storm breaks, but the mountains keep a secret. The afternoon sun slides under the clouds, lighting the lower slopes of Grays and Torreys while their summits vanish into shifting gray—a quiet theater of light and weather on the Continental Divide. It’s the kind of fleeting moment that asks you to stop, take it all in, and trust that what you can’t see is still there. “Lost in the Clouds” brings that tender, resilient calm home as fine art Colorado mountain photography that turns a wall into a window to the wilderness.
Driving through the mountains after a spring snow storm I was captivated by this fleeting vista of the softening edges of the passing storm and the gathering light highlighting the textures of the evergreens. Luckily I had my camera along and was able to capture the scene before it faded away. At 14,270’ and 14,267’ Grays and Torreys are two of Colorado’s most accessible fourteeners along the Continental Divide, their popularity matched only by their capacity to surprise you with moments like this.
This Colorado mountain photo was featured in the January 2019 edition of Landscape Photography Magazine.
