Along a stretch of Washington’s Pacific Coast an extraordinary tree leaves visitors speechless as it continues to live and thrive while clinging precariously to the hillside above Kalaloch Beach in Olympic National Park with most of its roots exposed. Known as the “Tree of Life” or the “Kalaloch Tree”, this 40′ tall Sitka Spruce hangs over the void of an ocean front bluff that has been eroded over time by a small stream. Anchored to the ground by only a few remaining roots, with most dangling in space, it’s not known how long the tree has been this way or how it is able to continue to live and thrive without toppling over in a strong storm.
