Hanging Lake is an iconic Colorado destination near Glenwood Springs. I was captivated by the colors and textures in this close-up image of one of the two waterfalls feeding into Hanging Lake.

Driving through Grand Canyon National Park on a November afternoon I encountered an unexpected storm that dropped heavy rain, hail, and at the higher elevations, snow. Not having a lot of time in the park that day I was worried that the weather would prevent me from getting any shots. I was able to wait out the storm for a bit and during a brief clearing capture the Grand Canyon and surrounding storm clouds illuminated in the late afternoon light.

As soon as I spotted this image I knew you had to work for it. What a dramatic image, just superb!

Located on the east side of Rocky Mountain National Park, Chasm Lake fills a deep cirque carved from the base of Mt. Meeker (13,911'), Longs Peak (14,259' and the highest point in the park), and Mt. Lady Washington (13,281'). The famous east-facing wall of Longs Peak known as "the diamond" rises 2,456' above this calm alpine lake which sits at 11,760'. Starting two hours before daybreak I made my way up the 4.2 miles to the lake mostly in the dark and arrived a little before sunrise and just in time to capture this image of the early morning summer light casting an orange glow on the peaks and surface of the water.
