About The Artist

Colorado Landscape Photography Brian Kerls at Shrine Pass near Vail, Colorado.

“I look for powerful moments where exceptional light meets a captivating subject to create something magical – something that makes you stop and feel”.

My pursuit of photography began during a college road trip across California. Equipped with only a simple, “point-and- shoot”, 35mm film camera I captured my first meaningful landscape and mountain images and began to view my surroundings through a new lens. That experience sparked a deep passion for photography – and I’ve been chasing light and adventure ever since.

While my camera gear has evolved since then, my purpose has remained the same: to capture and share the stunning landscapes of our natural and built environment that surround us, but often go unnoticed.  I look for powerful moments where exceptional light meets a captivating subject to create something magical – something that makes you stop and feel; something that touches your heart and inspires a stronger connection to the world around you.

I’ve been fortunate to have my photography featured  in publications such as Landscape Photography, Outdoor Photographer, and Practical Photography. These opportunities have encouraged me to continue exploring new subjects and perspectives and sharing immersive and inspiring moments through photography. I’m constantly striving to capture striking and unique elements from our natural or built landscapes in such a way that it feels like you’re experiencing these awe-inspiring moments and places in person.

As an avid adventurer and someone who thrives outdoors, it’s not just about the final image, but the joy of the journey and the experience. I pursue photography for the pure fun of it and I absolutely love the happiness, creativity, challenge, and exposure to the natural and built environment that photography provides in return. Whether summitting rugged mountain peaks, hiking to remote alpine lakes, chasing waterfalls, encountering wildlife, or exploring cities for architectural details, my camera is my constant companion for every adventure.  It helps me see the world more clearly and appreciate the details we often miss.

Although I have traveled worldwide, the spectacular  landscapes of Colorado, the American Southwest, and the Pacific Coast hold a special place in my heart. From snow-capped peaks and high alpine lakes to red rock formations and tranquil coastal scenes, these diverse landscapes, where every season brings new stories to tell, offer endless creative possibilities. Living in Colorado, I have access to some of the most stunning scenery in the country and I’m constantly inspired by the Rocky Mountains with their rugged peaks, alpine lakes, waterfalls, colorful fall foliage, and abundant wildlife.

Each photo I share is a brief moment captured; a glimpse into a moment of awe and serenity in the natural or built landscape that moved me. I hope my images are compelling enough to evoke a feeling, memory, or emotional connection in you too. For me, photography is a never-ending journey of exploration, education, challenge, creativity, and fun. I invite you to join me on this journey of exploration and discovery so you can feel like you’re experiencing these amazing landscapes in person.  Hopefully, along the way you too will develop a deep sense of appreciation for these special places and a shared sense of responsibility for protecting and preserving these strikingly beautiful landscapes for future generations.
